Colleen's Sailor has course and class edge

One horse who hit the board in two legs of the Canadian Triple Crown two years ago and another who won a six-figure stakes during that same 2012 season clash in a high-end allowance that serves as Monday’s feature at Finger Lakes.
Colleen’s Sailor, fourth in the Queen’s Plate and third in the Prince of Wales as a 3-year-old, and Fox Rules, romping winner of the $160,000 New York Derby in July 2012, are among eight older horses going a mile in a $20,300 allowance for runners who haven’t won a race other than claiming, starter, or statebred within the past six months.
Coleen’s Sailor, from the barn of perennial leading trainer Chris Englehart, and Fox Rules, part of an uncoupled entry for M. Anthony Ferraro, are both making their first starts following breaks of more than 61 days.
Colleen’s Sailor returns to Finger Lakes, where he went 2 for 2 last fall after coming to Englehart’s barn. He will be running for the first time since finishing last of five in a high-priced optional claimer at Aqueduct in January.
Englehart’s record with shippers to Finger Lakes in dirt routes following a break of 61 to 180 days is 8 for 22 (36 percent).
Fox Rules boasts a 4-for-5 record at Finger Lakes, including a daylight victory in his last start of 2013 in December. On the down side, Ferraro’s record with route runners back after a break of 61 to 180 days is just 1 for 19, including an eighth-place finish by Fox Rules last November at Aqueduct.
Ferraro will also send out Plime Blank, who won three times while running for an $8,000 claiming tag between December and March at Tampa Bay Downs. Ferraro’s record with shippers like Plime Blank racing in a route after a layoff of 31 to 60 days is 11 for 41 (27 percent).
The field also includes the long-absent Tequila Hero, who won three times at Finger Lakes as a 3-year-old last season. One of those victories, in a two-turn allowance in May, came following a layoff of 202 days, so his inactivity since October shouldn’t be worrisome.
Bigshotinthenews, an eight-time winner locally, and Sportswriter, claimed out of a win for $20,000 last month at Aqueduct, both stretch out from the same five-furlong sprint a week ago.
