Collected to stand at Airdrie Stud in 2019

Nicole Russo|Oct 29, 2018
Collected
Susie Raisher Collected has not raced since finishing seventh in the Pegasus World Cup in January.

Grade 1 winner Collected will stand at Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky., in 2019, the farm announced Monday evening.

Collected, by the late City Zip, has been entered for Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic, but is currently the first also-eligible for the race, in which he finished second last year. A stud fee for the 5-year-old will be announced at the time of his retirement.

"It's a very proud day for Airdrie Stud to be able to announce Collected as our newest stallion," Airdrie owner Brereton Jones said in a release. "One of the smallest bullseyes in our business is to find a young stallion that both fills the eye of the commercial breeder while also boasting the resume of a genuine leading sire prospect. Collected is that horse."

Collected, trained by Bob Baffert for Speedway Stable, sports a career record of 8-2-1 from 15 starts, with earnings of $2,975,500. He won the Grade 3 Sham Stakes, Sunland Park Festival of Racing Stakes, and Grade 3 Lexington Stakes early in his 3-year-old season, but finished 10th in the 2016 Preakness Stakes in what would be his last start of the year.

He returned to win his first four starts of 2017, taking, in succession, the Santana Mile, Grade 2 Californian Stakes, and Grade 3 Precisionist Stakes. He scored his biggest victory in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic that August, leading wire to wire and holding off champion stablemate Arrogate by a half-length. Accelerate, the favorite for this year's Breeders' Cup Classic, was third.

In the 2017 Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar, Collected was second by 2 1/4 lengths to Horse of the Year Gun Runner, with subsequent champion West Coast in third and Arrogate in a dead heat for fifth. Collected finished third in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes last December, and seventh in the world's richest race, the Pegasus World Cup, on Jan. 27. He went to the sidelines after that, and returned from an eight-month layoff to finish fourth in the Pennsylvania Derby Champion Stakes last month.
