Colinda Dawn defeats males in Colorado Derby

Colinda Dawn dominated males by nine lengths Sunday, when she led throughout to win the $40,000 Colorado Derby at Arapahoe Park. It was her second straight stakes victory at the track behind the $40,000 George Wafer Memorial.
Colinda Dawn ($5.60) broke on top in the Colorado Derby and dictated the pace in the 1 1/16-mile race. She ran the opening six furlongs in 1:12.30 before going on to win on a track rated fast in 1:47.84.
Dennis Collins was aboard for Eleanor Martin and trainer Ty Garrett.
Prater Sixty Four rallied for second in the Colorado Derby, while it was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Dewey. Passed Due, the favorite, finished fifth.
Also on the card, R Dub ($4.20) was a 2 3/4-length winner of the $40,000 Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Futurity.
