Steve Andersen|Oct 07, 2018

CYPRESS, Calif. - Cole Man 47 won his second stakes, and the richest start of his nine-race career, in Saturday’s $365,000 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Ramon Sanchez, Cole Man 47 ($11.40) won by a neck over 12-1 Jess Bein Me in a field of nine. Purty Fancy Dude, a 28-1 chance, finished third. Cole Man 47 ran 350 yards in 17.69 seconds.

A gelding, Cole Man 47 is owned by breeder Steve McIntyre and Marin Jones, the wife of trainer Paul Jones. By Stel Corona, Cole Man 47 has won 3 of 9 starts and earned $194,814. He won the California Juvenile Challenge in August, and was third in a division of the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity trials on Sept. 16.

Paul Jones indicated after Saturday’s race that Cole Man 47 will be pointed to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in December. Trial races will be run in November.

Moonie Blues, who was second in the 2017 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, won Friday’s $152,000 PCQHRA Breeders Derby for her first stakes win this year. Moonie Blues won the Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos last October.

Ridden by Sanchez, Moonie Blues ($4.20) led throughout the 400 yards and won by a half-length over 11-1 Chance to Fire. J Fire Up, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2017, was third.

Moonie Blues and J Fire Up are fillies trained by Jaime Gomez. Moonie Blues has won 7 of 16 starts and earned $496,225 for owner Lisa Anderson.
