Cody's Wish using Vosburgh as way to get to Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Cody’s Wish, who had his six-race winning streak snapped when he finished third in the Grade 1 Whitney, will face five rivals in Saturday’s Grade 2, $250,000 Vosburgh Stakes at Aqueduct.
Cody’s Wish is a four-time Grade 1 stakes winner. His five opponents have combined to win one graded stakes, and that was by High Oak, who, like Cody’s Wish, is trained by Bill Mott. High Oak won the Grade 2 Saratoga Special at 2 in 2021. Most recently, he finished third behind Gunite and Elite Power in the Grade 1 Forego at Saratoga.
Accretive, a two-time allowance winner this year; Cowan, who came off a year layoff to win a Charles Town allowance; Great Navigator, a New Jersey-bred stakes winner last out; and Sheriff Bianco, who will be making his third start in 16 days for Linda Rice, complete the field.
The Vosburgh, run at seven furlongs, is a Win and You’re In for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, though the connections of Cody’s Wish are using it as a stepping-stone to the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on Nov. 4. Cody’s Wish won the Dirt Mile last year.
Cody’s Wish, whose victories in one-turn races this year include the Grade 1 Churchill Downs and Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, will break from post 6 Saturday under Junior Alvarado.
The Vosburgh goes as race 3, shortly after 1 p.m.
