Code Warrior leads all the way in Seaway Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Code Warrior led all the way in Sunday’s Grade 3, $125,800 Seaway to register her second stakes win of the Woodbine meet.
Jockey Jesse Campbell was riding for trainer Mike DePaulo.
Code Warrior ($16.90) set moderate fractions of 23.30 and 46.33, with Corps de Ballet stalking in second in the 10-horse field of fillies and mares.
Code Warrior began to draw away early in the stretch, and then got home on top comfortably by two lengths, in a time of 1:22.35.
Thundering Sky, a George Weaver-trained shipper from Saratoga, rallied wide for second, and Malibu Bonnie checked in third. Corps de Ballet outran the favored Let It Ride Mom for fourth.
A daughter of Society’s Chairman, Code Warrior earned $75,000 for Robert Marzilli’s Zilli Racing Stables. She also won the Grade 3 Hendrie Stakes here in June, and the first stakes run on the continent this year, the Jan. 1 Abundantia on the grass at Gulfstream.
“I told Rob and Mike in the paddock, if she runs like she’s been training, then she’s going to run big today,” Campbell said. “She’s a pro.”
Wallace wins Soaring Free Stakes
Wallace ($31.90) went straight to the front, proceeded to set slow fractions, and kept on going to land Sunday’s $105,600 Soaring Free Stakes under Emma-Jayne Wilson.
Wallace prevailed by 1 3/4 lengths over the maiden Tricky Magician. The favored shipper, Fluminense, finished a belated third in the six-horse field of 2-year-olds. Over yielding turf, the final time was 1:11.83.
Sid Attard trains Wallace, who was a private purchase by owner Lou Tucci after his June 27 graduation at Presque Isle Downs.
“Lou called me before the race and told me to make sure you tell Emma to send him,” Attard said.
Wallace banked $60,000 in the prep for next month’s Grade 1 Summer Stakes.
