Code of Honor can be ready to run in a flash

Though he has not recorded an official workout yet this year, multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Code of Honor could be ready to run by early June provided there is a place to run, trainer Shug McGaughey said.

McGaughey said that Code of Honor is galloping at a clip known as a two-minute lick every four or five days.
“He’s getting a lot out of that,” McGaughey said. “He’s ready to start breezing.”
At 3, Code of Honor won the Grade 1 Travers and was elevated to first in the Jockey Club Gold Cup when Vino Rosso was disqualified for interference. Code of Honor has not run since finishing seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Meanwhile, McGaughey said that Performer, winner of last year’s Discovery Handicap, has breezed eight times at Payson Park and is ready to run.
“I’m trying to keep him where he is until they come up with some kind of abbreviated stakes schedule and some place I could point to,” he said.
