He paid $2.20 for his 13 ½-length romp over Chumly in the  5 ½-furlong dash for 2-year-old colts and geldings. With Juan Gutierrez riding, Cobra Jet pressed Firewalker through an opening quarter-mile of 21.59 seconds before taking the lead. He held a five-length advantage over Chumly at the eighth pole and drew off to win with complete authority. Chumly came from a stalking position to finish two lengths in front of Firewalker, who held on to finish third in the five-horse field. The Blaine Wright-trained Slack Tide won the $45,000 Angie C Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on Sunday. She paid $17.60 and posted a final time of 1:04.94 in the 5 ½ furlongs. With Herbert Martinez riding, Slack Tide dueled with Akasi and Smiling Salsa early, and drew off in midstretch to win by three lengths over Akasi. Akasi appeared to be out of contention when she dropped well back on the turn, but rallied late from along the trail to get up for second. Smiling Salsa held on to finish a neck in front of Cadillac Margarita, who was went off as the even-money favorite in the six-horse field.
