Coast to Coast Pick 5 play for Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024
GP RACE 10: SOCIALLY SELECTIVE is a viable single to start the sequence. Well after her blowout debut score at Saratoga, she placed in both of her starts last spring, including an Oaklawn stakes behind future Grade 2 winner Key of Life, before heading to the sidelines. Trainer Bill Mott has won at a 26 percent clip with six-month-plus comebackers at Gulfstream during the past five years, with a return on investment of $3.13. (1)

GP RACE 11: MY LADY JAMES brings solid Tapeta form to her grass debut, and the daughter of 27 percent turf sprint sire Valiant Minister is a half-sister to a pair of runners who placed on turf. WORK OF FICTION is turning back to a distance seemingly too short for her, but her last troubled race in a tough allowance at Churchill contained four next-out winners. Her trainer, Rusty Arnold, won a five-furlong turf dash Wednesday. CALL ME SPICY, who has been knocking on the door at this level on the Tapeta, possesses a pretty good turf-sprint pedigree and could join the fray. (3)
SA RACE 5: PRANCINGTHRUPARIS ran hot and cold on the dirt after notching her five-furlong opener on the grass. She’s bred to handle the stretch-out to a mile and retains the talented Anotonio Fresu, who is 2 for 8 at the meet aboard runners trained by Peter Eurton. ASADA FRIES graduated in her penultimate start going long on the Del Mar turf before ending up third in a stakes at Los Alamitos. SUSHI STICKS also earned her diploma over a mile on the Del Mar sod. She subsequently had a troubled trip in the Grade 3 Surfer Girl at Santa Anita before earning black type in a Tapeta stakes at Golden Gate. (3)

SA RACE 6: EL REY DORADO is seeking to extend her win streak to three races in this restricted allowance/optional claimer and could take some catching in a field without much other speed. BAG’S GOLD would be dangerous with a repeat of her fourth-place finish behind the sharp next-out winner Book Smart in a fast Nov. 12 tilt at Del Mar. (2)
SA RACE 7: ROSE MADDOX and MADIHA both won going down the hillside turf course last fall, and that valuable experience over the unique layout is a plus. Rose Maddox picks up second-leading rider Flavien Prat and is sent out by successful turf-sprint trainer Steve Miyadi. ROSE DAWSON was a wide second among three next-out winners in her last outing at Del Mar. STAY AND SCAM wasn’t far behind Madiha in second the only time she ventured down the hill. (4)
THE PLAY: 7/ 8, 10, 12 / 2, 4, 5 / 5, 7 / 1, 2, 3, 6 = $72 ticket
