Coach Jimi Lee prevails

Coach Jimi Lee ($3) had to outfight three challengers in the stretch to prevail by a half-length in the $75,000 Waterford Park Handicap at Mountaineer Racetrack.

The Chicago-based Coach Jimi Lee, making his first start since October, was part of a four-way tussle for the lead turning for home in the six-furlong race. Bernie Blue drew even with Coach Jimi Lee in the upper stretch, but the odds-on favorite dug in under urging by Dana Whitney and drew clear to win in 1:10.22.

Bernie Blue held second, a neck in front of Cognac Kisses.

It was the 16th win in 40 career starts for Coach Jimi Lee, trained and co-owned by Jim Divito.
