HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Gettysburg Address should be closer to the pace than he found himself last out when he meets comebacking stakes winner Gold Sweep in Sunday’s eighth race at Oaklawn Park. The entry-level allowance for 3-year-olds at a mile was split into divisions. The lineup for the sixth race includes Footprint and Next Level, who both exit the Gun Runner at Fair Grounds. The races, which end at the sixteenth pole, could produce starters for next month’s Grade 2, $1.25 million Rebel Stakes. The card Sunday also includes a maiden special weight sprint that drew first-time starter Olivier, a 4-year-old full brother to 2022 Horse of the Year Flightline. The nightcap is a competitive entry-level allowance for 4-year-olds and up that drew the graded stakes-placed Sun Thunder. Gettysburg Address last raced on Jan. 1, closing from last to finish fourth in the $300,000 Smarty Jones. The effort came one start after he had set the pace and finished fourth in the Grade 3 Street Sense at Churchill Downs. Gettysburg Address trailed for much of the Smarty Jones. “He was squeezed,” trainer Brad Cox said of the start. “It compromised him some early as far as placing. I never expected he’d be last. He finished up well, galloped out well, stayed on.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. Gettysburg Address was beaten a total of three lengths and the Beyer Speed Figure of 82 that he earned is the best last-race number in the Sunday field. The horse will break from post 5 in the field of 10. Martin Chuan has the mount on the son of Constitution and the Grade 2-winning mare Jojo Warrior for breeder WinStar Farm and co-owner Siena Farm. Gold Sweep is making his two-turn debut and first start since October. He has been preparing at Fair Grounds, which might give him an advantage on some of the locals as a recent winter storm system led to the loss of 10 days of training at Oaklawn through Tuesday. Gold Sweep won his maiden in last year’s Tremont at Belmont Park, popping a Beyer Speed Figure of 91. Following the June race, he traveled to Saratoga and lost all chance at the start of the Grade 3 Sanford, where he closed from last to finish second. Gold Sweep closed out his season in the Grade 1 Champagne, finishing fourth in a race that has produced two next-out stakes winners led by Fierceness, who captured the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in November and on Thursday night was crowned champion 2-year-old male of 2023. Gold Sweep will have his blinkers removed Sunday after donning them for the first time in the Champagne. Keith Asmussen has the mount on the son of Speightstown from post 7 for Mike McCarty and trainer Steve Asmussen. Northern Flame, who breaks from the rail, was fourth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity last fall at Keeneland. In the sixth race, Footprint and Next Level ran a respective fourth and seventh last out in the Gun Runner. The winner of the race, Track Phantom, came back in his next start to win the Lecomte at Fair Grounds. Next Level last year was third in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity, while Footprint is a half-brother to 2-year-old stakes winner Red Hot Mess. Tejon Pass makes his two-turn debut off back-to-back stakes placings. He finished third in the Grade 3 Bob Hope at Del Mar and second in the Renaissance at Oaklawn. He’s a son of Triple Crown winner Justify and out of the mare Foxysox, a multiple Grade 2 winner who earned more than $700,000. There is no better bred horse on the card than Olivier in the fifth race, a maiden special weight for 3-year-olds and up over six furlongs. Olivier and Flightline are by Tapit and out of the Indian Charlie mare Feathered, who was a Grade 3 winner of more than $577,000. Flightline went 6 for 6 for earnings of $4.5 million. He won his debut at six furlongs at Santa Anita, where he cruised by double digits and earned a triple-digit Beyer Speed Figure, a 105. Cristian Torres has the mount on Olivier from post 4 for trainer Rodolphe Brisset. The nine-race card closes with Sun Thunder making his second start since the Kentucky Derby in the 1 1/16-mile race that drew 11. Sun Thunder enters off a runner-up finish at this level, a race for which he earned a career-high Beyer Figure of 90. :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures “It was a really good start back,” said trainer Kenny McPeek. Sun Thunder, who was second in the Risen Star last year at 3 before finishing fourth in the Blue Grass and 11th in the Kentucky Derby, will break from post 2 under Julien Leparoux. Others who will get support include Hollywood Ending, a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Actress, and Bolzy, a son of Gun Runner and the millionaire She’s All In. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
