Clubhouse Ride eyes Los Alamitos
DEL MAR, Calif. - Clubhouse Ride, who won the Grade 2 Californian Stakes at Santa Anita in June but was last of 10 in the $1 million Pacific Classic on Aug. 24, is among the candidates for the $200,000 Los Alamitos Mile on Saturday.
The Los Alamitos Mile is the top race of the three-week Los Alamitos September meeting, which takes the place of the Los Angeles County Fair meeting at Fairplex Park on the Southern California calendar.
The Los Alamitos September meeting begins Friday and continues through Sept. 21 for 11 racing days.
Trainer Craig Lewis said last week that Clubhouse Ride emerged from the Pacific Classic as if he did not race.
“He couldn’t blow out a match,” he said.
Other possible starters for the Los Alamitos Mile are Masochistic, Sky Kingdom Soi Phet, and Tonito M. Sadler said he has not ruled out the race for Candy Boy, who was second Aug. 2 in the West Virginia Derby, but said the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on Sept. 20 is more likely.
* Jockeys Edwin Maldonado and Irving Orozco have been fined $400 each for failing to report their riding weights Wednesday and failing to appear at a meeting with stewards Scott Chaney, Luis Jauregui, and Kim Sawyer.
* Owner Kerry Sangara has been suspended for failing to respond to allegations of a financial obligation of $32,017 to Equine Medical Center, according to a stewards ruling released Friday.
