ETOBICOKE, Ontario – New York trainer Miguel Clement and jockey Sahin Civaci teamed up with a couple of very live shippers last Saturday at Woodbine when Breath Away won the Grade 2 Dance Smartly before Tawny Port lost the Grade 1 Canadian International by a dirty nose. They have the probable favorite in Saturday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Ontario Fashion with Gal in a Rush, who was supplemented to the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares off a victory in the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Masters. Gal in a Rush is no stranger to Woodbine. The stretch runner won the Grade 3 Hendrie last year and has started here three times this year, with her best finish being a runner-up in the Grade 3 Whimsical in the spring. Joel Rosario gave Gal in a Rush a patient ride in the 6 1/2-furlong Masters when she rallied along the rail to prevail by a length with a 90 Beyer Speed Figure. Civaci rode her when she finished a close second in last year’s Grade 3 Seaway and will break her from post 7 in a nine-horse field. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! She captured the 2024 Winter Memories Stakes at Aqueduct after winning two handicaps during the previous spring at Longchamp. “I’m not entirely sure about the synthetic, but I am rather confident she will handle the cutback in distance,” Clement predicted. Gal in a Rush and Les Reys, who will have Rafael Hernandez aboard, are both adding Lasix. Ms. Tart never fired in the Masters after winning the local prep for that race. The closer ran third in the May 3 Whimsical and then posted a 70-1 upset on the grass here in the Grade 3 Royal North on May 31. Huber Villa-Gomez will ride her for trainer Kevin Rice. Ontario Damsel Stakes The erratic Woodbine Oaks winner No Time heads Saturday’s supporting feature, the $125,000 Ontario Damsel Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile event for 3-year-old fillies. Trained by Mark Casse, No Time won a June 1 allowance in front-running style and went on to finish a flat fourth in the Grade 3 Selene. She ran the race of her life when taking the July 20 Oaks with an 88 Beyer, after which she wound up ninth as the second betting choice in the King’s Plate and fifth in the Wonder Where Stakes on the inner turf. Casse also entered Souper Zonda and Selene runner-up Tiz Her Money in the eight-horse event. Trainer Jonathan Thomas supplemented the Keeneland-based turf specialist Will Then, who’s adding Lasix off a fifth-place finish in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. She graduated on the inner turf here last fall before doubling up in the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante at Del Mar. Cue the Duckboats, a dirt runner trained by Bill Mott, is exiting a first-level allowance score at her Saratoga base. The Kentucky-bred is a daughter of the outstanding broodmare sire Bernardini, who has sired 10 percent winners in synthetic routes. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
