Clement and Brown play 3-on-3 in Long Island

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The turf season is nearing its end on the East Coast, and Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Long Island Handicap is the final graded event for fillies and mares in 2015 on this circuit.
Not surprisingly, trainers Christophe Clement and Chad Brown will be well represented in the 1 1/2-mile race, sending out three runners apiece among the 11 horses entered Wednesday. Ten were entered for turf and one for the main track only.
In 2014, Clement also sent out three runners and won the Long Island with Aigue Marine, who edged out the Brown-trained Danza Cavallo, who could be favored in this year’s renewal. Clement, who has won this race three times, also ran third with Maximova and fifth with Tabreed.
On Saturday, Clement sends out Walk Close, Courtesan, and Crisolles against the Brown trio of Goldy Espony, Danza Cavallo, and Rosalind.
Walk Close hasn’t raced since winning the Grade 3 Modesty Handicap at Arlington in July. Courtesan comes out of a second-place finish in the Ladies Marathon at Kentucky Downs. Crisolles won an allowance race at Belmont. Courtesan, Crisolles, and Walk Close drew posts 7, 9, and 10.
Meanwhile, Brown’s trio of Goldy Espony, Rosalind, and Danza Cavallo drew posts 1, 2, and 3.
Goldy Espony won the River Memories at Belmont and the Waya at Saratoga before finishing ninth in the Grade 3 Glens Falls at Saratoga. Danza Cavallo comes out of a second-place finish in the Flower Bowl at Belmont. Rosalind comes out of a third-place finish in the E.P. Taylor at Woodbine.
The others entered for turf were Mutatis Mutandis, Evidently, Interrupted, and Gotachancetodance. Mei Ling was entered for the main track only.
