Clear Pasaj returns from long layoff in Susan B. Anthony

Clear Pasaj, whose ultra-consistent 2013 campaign included stakes wins at Saratoga and Belmont Park, returns from a long layoff for the first stakes of the season at Finger Lakes on Saturday, the $50,000 Susan B. Anthony for New York-bred fillies and mares going six furlongs.
As a 4-year-old last season, Clear Pasaj recorded 3 wins and 4 seconds in 7 starts, highlighted by scores in back-to-back statebred sprint stakes at Belmont and Saratoga. She has not raced since finishing second in the $100,000 Union Avenue last August.
Her trainer, Bruce Levine, shows a 4-for-10 record (40 percent) with female sprinters making their first start following a break of more than 180 days.
The nine-horse field also includes Miss Rubycubes, the winner of the 2013 New York Oaks, and Champagne Ruby, a 3-year-old stakes winner making her first start against older horses.
Miss Rubycubes put together a three-race winning streak last summer, capped by her victory in the 1 1/16-mile New York Oaks. Her form soured in three subsequent starts. She will be making her first start since October and returning to a sprint after five consecutive routes.
Champagne Ruby shipped in to Finger Lakes for trainer Linda Rice to upset the Shesastonecoldfox at 12-1 last fall. She makes the second start of her form cycle after rallying to get second in a $100,000 New York Stallion Stakes event at Aqueduct.
Others who merit respect include Make the Moment, a two-time winner during the winter at Aqueduct; American Trilogy, 2 for 2 this spring locally; and Little Rocket, who won her Finger Lakes debut by 1 1/2 lengths May 9.
