Clean Jean connects in Jack Betta Be Rite
Clean Jean reaffirmed her affinity for the surface at Finger Lakes when she drew clear in the stretch to capture Saturday’s $50,000 Jack Betta Be Rite Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares.
The 6-year-old Clean Jean ($6.30), ridden by Wilfredo Rohena, was fourth, about three lengths behind pacesetter Nicole’s Miss El, through the first half-mile in 46.82 seconds. Clean Jean mounted a three-wide bid approaching the turn, took the lead entering the stretch, and finished 2 1/2 lengths in front while completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:47.03.
Capella Dancer held off a late charge by Little Rocket to get second by a head.
Clean Jean, claimed for $20,000 in May, has now won two in a row for her new connections, trainer Jeremiah Englehart and owner Neal Allread. She is 15 for 40 lifetime with earnings of $231,795. All but two of her victories have come at Finger Lakes.
Clean Jean, seventh in last year’s Jack Betta Be Rite and second in the 2012 running of the stakes, enabled Englehart to win his first stakes since 2007. It was also the first career stakes win for Clean Jean, the 2012 horse of the meet at Finger Lakes when she won 8 of 15 starts.
