ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Candy Quest closed steadily from well back to notch her first stakes win in the Grade 3, $150,000 Ontario Colleen while giving jockey Sahin Civaci a sweep of the two Saturday stakes at Woodbine.
In a diverse eight-horse field of 3-year-old fillies, Candy Quest raced about five lengths off the lead in seventh before commencing a rally entering the stretch.
Candy Quest split Somethinabouther and pacesetter It Ain’t Two inside the eighth pole en route to a 1 3/4-length score, in a time of 1:33.51 over the one-mile firm ground.
Somethinabouther nosed out It Ain’t Too for second, while the favored Boca Queen checked in fourth after missing the break. Tiz Her Money, Pretty Lavish, Hidden Quarry, and Lupa completed the order of finish.
Trained by Mark Casse, Candy Quest returned $7.60 as the second choice in the wagering. The daughter of Connect earned $90,000 for Glassman Racing in her local debut and first start since finishing second in the June 27 Penn Oaks.
“I got on the horse in the morning and I liked her,” said Civaci, who won the Grade 3 Trillium on Literate earlier on the card. “We had an easy, comfortable trip. Everything opened up and she kicked on.”
