Civaci looks to continue hot streak with Mrs. C

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Sahin Civaci had a day last Saturday at Woodbine, winning six races, including the Shady Well Stakes on Pop Idol. Can the meet’s runaway leading rider get Mrs. C back to the winner’s circle in Thursday’s featured Ontario-sired allowance/$40,000 claimer?

Mrs. C took an eternity to earn her diploma, finally turning the trick in her 19th start when favored with Civaci taking over Sept. 7. Three weeks later, she wound up fourth after a wide trip against nonwinners-of-two Ontario-sired allowance types and $40,000 claimers.

Civaci guided Mrs. C to a victory over nonwinners-of-two opposition Oct. 12, for which she got a career-best 74 Beyer Speed Figure. He didn’t ride the 4-year-old when she was never a factor most recently in a tough allowance/optional claimer.

Mrs. C competes for the $40,000 tag against nonwInners-of-three company on Thursday for trainer Mike DePaulo, who has impressive numbers when using Civaci.

Prima could be the controlling speed in the 6 1/2-furlong event. The John Mattine-trained daughter of Silent Name finished second to Mrs. C while earning a career-high 71 Beyer on Oct. 12.

Prima cleared the nonwinners-of-two condition most recently after helping to set a slow pace, scoring with a 70 Beyer in a 6 1/2-furlong sprint. Apprentice Austin Adams, who swept the early pick three last Thursday, inherits the mount on Prima from Eswan Flores, who is sticking with Blameless Ghost.

Blameless Ghost was a $40,000 claim by trainer Peter Berringer on July 6, when the daughter of good broodmare sire Blame beat nonwinners-of-two opponents for trainer Mark Casse. The turf expert was competitive in two subsequent inner course excursions, including a close second to a sharp Happy Valentine.

When turning back to a sprint on the Tapeta in her latest, Blameless Ghost was hard-ridden while four wide on the turn en route to finishing sixth. She drew the rail in a nine-horse field on Thursday after breezing a half-mile in 49.20 seconds last Friday.

Two Sip Sally looks like a player from off the pace. She ran second in three consecutive $25,000 nonwinners-of-two races under a variety of conditions before clearing the nonwinners-of-two class most recently with a $40,000 tag going a mile on the inner turf. Rafael Hernandez will ride her again for trainer Marty Drexler. The pair teamed to win with Souper Dormy on Sunday.

Bedazzle Me ran well in three straight outings at this level in the spring before taking the summer off. She was beaten four lengths in each of her first two starts after returning from her vacation this fall, before a dull seventh in an open allowance around two turns.

Cymbal Court went four wide on the turn after breaking a bit slowly when third against $25,000 foes on Nov. 7.

Rounding out the lineup in the sixth race are Go Giffen, Iron Pyrite, and Olympic Fencer.
