Jockey Sahin Civaci has twice been cited by the New York stewards for “failing to put forth his best effort” costing his horses a placing in two races at Aqueduct, according to two stewards rulings. The stewards fined Civaci $2,000 for his ride on Asset Management in the second race on Feb. 1. Asset Management finished fifth, beaten a nose for fourth. The difference in purse money for the connections between fourth and fifth place in that race was $1,480. In the second ruling, the stewards suspended Civaci three days – Thursday through Saturday – for his ride on Fromanothamutha on Feb. 6, where again Civaci’s mount was beaten a nose for fourth. The difference in purse money for fourth and fifth place in that race was $1,080. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Join DRF Bets. In both races, superfecta wagering – which requires bettors to correctly select the top four finishers in a race – was offered. Civaci hurt his back on Feb. 6, an issue that prompted him to take off his mounts Friday through Sunday. Civaci, according to his agent Mike Sellitto, was scheduled to see an orthopedist on Tuesday. At that visit, Civaci is hoping to get the okay to return to riding as early as Sunday, entries for which are taken Wednesday. Civaci, the leading rider at Woodbine in 2024, has won 15 races from 88 mounts at Aqueduct this winter, placing him fifth in the rider standings. Jackie Davis will serve a four-day suspension and was fined $1,000 after she was cited for her fourth whip violation in a 180-day period. Davis struck Joevia’s Diva seven times with the whip – one over the limit established by the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority – in the first race at Aqueduct on Jan. 23. It was her fourth such violation in six months, according to a HISA ruling. Davis will serve her days Feb. 15-17 and 21. Davis, who tied for fifth in the rider standings at Finger Lakes in 2024, has been riding at Parx and Aqueduct this winter. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
