ELMONT, N.Y. – City Man will try to complete his own New York-bred turf stakes grand slam when he heads a field of nine entered for Monday’s $125,000 Kingston Stakes at Belmont Park. City Man, already a millionaire and an eight-time stakes winner, won the Mohawk and Ashely T. Cole last fall at Aqueduct. In 2021, he won the West Point at Saratoga. Those three races, pus the Kingston, are the four turf stakes offered annually on this circuit for New York breds. In his lone try at the Kingston last year, City Man finished seventh with a troubled trip. City Man followed his two statebred stakes wins last fall with a victory in the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale at Gulfstream on Dec. 31. In two starts this year, he finished last in the Pegasus World Cup Turf, and was third, beaten two lengths by Ottoman Fleet, in the Grade 2 Fort Marcy here on May 6. “He was in mid-pack, he came to win the race, then just got tired last sixteenth of a mile,” Christophe Clement, trainer of City Man, said of his Fort Marcy effort. “It was a very good race.” :: Take your handicapping to the next level and play with FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic.  City Man, to be ridden by Joel Rosario, is the 124-pound highweight in the field. Though he’s recorded nine wins from 28 starts, City Man is 0 for 6 at Belmont. Among his chief rivals Monday will be Dakota Gold, a three-time stakes winner, including two wins in the New York Stallion Stakes series. In his lone start this year, Dakota Gold finished fourth, beaten two lengths by Emmanuel with some trouble in the Grade 2 Canadian Turf. “He ran really good, got the best numbers of his life,” trainer Danny Gargan said. “He’s doing really well, back against New York-breds. City Man is going to be a huge favorite, but [Dakota Gold] is doing really well, I think he’s going to run big.” Irad Ortiz Jr. rides Dakota Gold from post 4. Somelikeithotbrown, an eight-time stakes winner makes his 7-year-old debut and return to turf in this spot. When last seen against New York-breds he won the off-the-turf West Point Stakes by six lengths, albeit against only two horses. Ocala Dream upset the Kingston last year at 17-1 but is winless in seven starts since. Rinaldi’s speed makes him a factor. Jerry the Nipper, Call Me Harry, Coinage and Citizen K round out the field. Mt. Vernon Stakes Runaway Rumour won the first three starts of her career, but is only 1 for 13 since. Perhaps a change of scenery will do the 5-year-old mare some good. Monday, Runaway Rumour will go out for trainer Horacio De Paz for the first time in the $125,000 Mt. Vernon Stakes for New York-bred females at 1 1-16 miles on turf. Previously trained by Jorge Abreu, Runaway Rumour captured the Ticonderoga Stakes to end her 4-year-old season. In April’s Plenty of Grace Stakes at Aqueduct, Runaway Rumour, off a 5 1/2-month layoff, finished third, beaten two lengths by loose-on-the-lead Evvie Jets. Whitebeam, the runner-up from the Plenty of Grace, came back to win the Grade 3 Gallorette Stakes on the Preakness undercard at Pimlico. De Paz said he’s only had Runaway Rumour two weeks, and had Manny Franco work her on May 22. “She came in in good condition,” De Paz said. “Manny worked her and came and asked when is she running. I said, ‘Is she fit?’ He said,“Yeah.’ ” Franco rides Runaway Rumour from post 7 in the eight-horse field. Runaway Rumour will hope for more speed in this field than in the Plenty of Grace. Sanura, trained by Barclay Tagg, is coming off two front-running victories in allowance company. Out of Sight has shown speed going a route of ground before and could keep Sanura company up front. Finest Work and Marvelous Maude finished one-two – with Runaway Rumour third – in last September’s John Hettinger Stakes. Finest Work is back with New York-breds after getting beat soundly in two open-company stakes. :: Bet the races on DRF Bets! Royal Dancer, Early Edition, and Freddymo Factor are sprinters attempting to stretch out. The Mt. Vernon goes as race 6 on the 10-race program. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
