City of Light, Justify lead first-crop sires at Fasig-Tipton July
A yearling filly by Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and Pegasus World Cup winner City of Light sold for $230,000 to fetch the top price for a first-crop sire at Fasig-Tipton July. The filly, from the family of Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice and Grade 1 winner Rail Trip, was purchased by Selective LLC with Cary Bloodstock as agent. Her price tied for the 10th-highest of the sale, making City of Light the only first-crop sire in that group.
The only yearling in the sale from the first crop of Triple Crown winner Justify, a filly out of Grade 1 winner Emma’s Encore, sold for $210,000 to The Elkstone Group, the second-highest price for a first-crop sire.
Following City of Light and Justify among top first-crop sires were a $200,000 Girvin colt purchased by BSW/Crow, a $200,000 Mor Spirit colt to Woodford Thoroughbreds, and a $200,000 Army Mule colt to Maverick Racing.
