City of Light heading to Forego

Barbara D. Livingston City of Light will run in the Forego at Saratoga on Aug. 25 instead of the Whitney there.
DEL MAR, Calif. – City of Light, one of the top older horses in the country, is back in serious training and pointing to the Grade 1, $600,000 Forego on Aug. 25 at Saratoga.
City of Light had been a potential candidate for next week’s Whitney at Saratoga, but was removed from consideration for that race after he developed “a stubborn foot bruise,” trainer Michael McCarthy said this week at Del Mar.
The Forego is at seven furlongs, the distance at which City of Light won both the Grade 1 Malibu on Dec. 26 and Grade 1 Triple Bend on March 10, both at Santa Anita. Since then, City of Light went around two turns and won the Oaklawn Handicap before finishing third in the Gold Cup at Santa Anita.
