Churchill: Jockey Sophie Doyle breaks collarbone in spill

Keeneland/Coady Photography Jockey Sophie Doyle will likely miss six to eight weeks after suffering a broken collarbone.

Jockey Sophie Doyle is expected to be out six to eight weeks after sustaining a broken right collarbone in a spill in the first race Thursday at Churchill Downs.

Doyle was aboard Showered when the 4-year-old gelding clipped heels in tight quarters and fell after turning for home in the $8,000 claiming race. Trainer Anthony Hamilton Jr. reported Showered had to be euthanized because of a severe injury suffered in the fall.

Doyle, 29, is the older sister of James Doyle, a successful rider in their home country of England. Sophie Doyle rode her first winner in the United States in 2014 and now has 108 wins. She can be expected to return at Ellis Park or Indiana Grand.
