Churchill Downs horses to watch: Week of Nov. 9
LA GRENOUILLE
Trainer: Chris Richard
Last race: Oct. 30, 3rd
Finish: 7th by 11 1/2
Beyer: 29
Racing over a sloppy track, this mare never got involved in a bottom-level nickel claimer, but seems capable of better next out on a fast surface. She also was claimed out of the race by the high-percentage connections of trainer Chris Richard and Maggi Moss – for whom she ought to improve.
FIGHT THE TIDE
Trainer: Bret Calhoun
Last race: Oct. 30, 7th
Finish: 4th by 10 1/2
Beyer: 64
Struggled over sloppy ground and also grew tired racing 1 1/8 miles. He looks most effective as a late-running sprinter and merits consideration if he is cut back in distance, particularly if dropped into a maiden claimer next out.
ANY DAY NOW
Trainer: Bill Mott
Last race: Oct. 31, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 11 1/2
Beyer: 62
She improved second time out by showing speed and chasing the winner for much of the race before tiring to third in the slop. Expect continued development in her next race, particularly if she gets a chance to get back on the grass.
