Churchill Downs: DRF Plus handicapping report for November 9, 2013
Race 1 |
Spot PlaySCARIFF ISLAND ( #5, 8-1) is interesting because of the “where’d that come from?” performance in last-out comeback. 8yo barely had run in 2013 & had been in awful form before break but whizzed past $5K platers this track & distance like nothing, earning upgrade to starter competition. Favorites all have little holes. - Marcus Hersh

Vulnerable FavoriteCYBER SECRET (#1, 2-1) doesn’t have a single turf race that comes close to beating the best in here in what obviously is just a spot to get him going again. Much better chance if rained onto dirt but still gotta deal with Neck N ‘Neck.- Marcus Hersh CYBER SECRET (#1, 2-1) is classy, having won the Oaklawn Handicap this year, but is far better on turf than dirt; likely is using this race as a prep to get ready for the winter at Oaklawn; good chance he isn’t in the exacta in this short field. – Byron King

Spot PlayDOUBLY DISTINCT (#10, 8-1) probably won’t go off as high as the M / L with this sparkling work pattern, but I could be wrong. $100K 2yo auction buy makes him a very pricey model for this sire. Barn not known for 1st-timers but this one looks possible. - Marcus Hersh

Spot PlayDOBRA HISTORIA (#1, 9-2) didn't earn a big figure for that maiden win last time but it was visually impressive; also, the slow early pace made it tough for him to post a big Beyer, yet it also made the late run even more impactful. -Kenny Peck
Spot PlayMYOSITIS DAN (#8, 6-1) ran a much improved race second out, whipping maidens in fast time at Keeneland; is bred for a stretch out to 1 1/16 miles and should sit a perfect pressing trip on the outside; likely overlooked behind some much hyped runners.– Byron King
