Churchill Downs: DRF Plus handicapping report for November 17, 2013
Race 1 |
Spot PlayARTURIUS (#1, 5-2): Tim Ice of Summer Bird fame caught fire (figuratively) this week at CD when sending out a couple of winners, and despite this colt’s rather sluggish form, he actually fits this two-turn race quite well. Stretches out off tougher races when favorably drawn to the rail with Mena aboard; makes his presence felt. – Marty McGee

Spot PlayCROSSED HEARTS (#2, 6-1) was closing well in the late stages of her local debut last time out, following a slow start; should get a better race flow in this one, too. -Kenny Peck

Spot
Spot PlaySNEAKIN AWAY (#8, 4-1) was thoroughly whipped in the slop last out, but just with his connections taking a chance in an Indiana-bred stakes race; turf is what he wants to do, and this starter condition suits him well. – Byron King
Vulnerable FavoriteTATER DOWNS (#8, 4-1) is by no means a toss out, but his usual Beyers are no better than those of others in here and he is likely to get bet down from his 4-1 morning line; faces a deep group, too.– Byron King

Race 8 |
Spot PlayLET IT SNOW (#9, 4-1): Expensive daughter of the world-class sire Tapit has really raised the clockers’ eyebrows in the a.m. for youthful trainer (Lyster) who’s enjoying his best season to date. Fact that Leparoux accepts the call surely means something; comes well-drawn to the outside post from where the jock can guide her with confidence. Lively tote play should afford some clues as well. – Marty McGee
