Churchill Downs: DRF Plus handicapping report for May 18, 2014
Race 1 |
Spot PlayGREY BY YOU (#5, 2-1): We had this one tabbed at 14-1 on opening night, so it’s not like we’re suddenly climbing on a bandwagon. Instructive to know, however, that that was no fluke, as this gray guy met some good ones at OP and had some nice back-form to suggest a breakout was possible. Meeting just 4 foes today, a repeat is on tap. – Marty McGee

Spot PlayBIG TOWN (#1, 2-1) This race with a short field is absolutely made to order for Bo-Rail, who surely will gun his lone-speed mount to the early lead from the rail post and then proceed to nurse him through soft fractions. From flagfall to that’s all … and that’s all. – Marty McGee

Spot PlayASSURED (#8, 7-2): Confluence of numerous factors makes this 4yo filly a very attractive play, as she draws well to the outer, from where she can get a nifty stalk-and-see trip under Leparoux when turning back from a badly needed last-out synth route at Kee. Impeccably bred filly from HOF barn is absolutely primed for a breakout. – Marty McGee
