Race 2

Spot Play

MAYBE LILY (#6, 3-1): No, she didn’t beat much in that maiden-bottom race a few weeks ago, but overall it was a very positive effort as she once again faces no world-beaters on this token raise into N2L company. Draws favorably toward the outer, from where she can stalk-and-see under jock who rarely gets overplayed. – Marty McGee

OLDWICK (#8, 5-1) might be able to wire these despite the outside post; he was caught up in a duel through fast splits last time but he shoul dget a softer race flow today. -Kenny Peck

Race 8

Mint Julep Stakes by Marty McGee

There’s just a ton of early speed in here, isn’t there, assuming there are no significant scratches? At least half the 8-filly field can be classified as such, with Honey Hues (#1) being a real burner; Enchanting Lisa (#7) and Maid On a Mission (#8) also liking the front; and I’m Already Sexy (#3) the classiest of those with gas.

Of course it doesn’t always work out this way on paper, but it seems these fillies will all have a tough time lasting if the pace is too quick – and things will set up for a dead closer who just so happens to love this turf course. That, of course, is Miz Ida (#5, 7-2 M/L), who surely needed her latest in the ultra-tough G2 CD Distaff Turf Mile and stands to improve by leaps and bounds with that race under her belt, not to mention this favorable pace scenario with C-Lan taking full advantage. Here’s a very confident vote on her behalf.

The play: key Miz Ida first and second in tri’s (and supers too) over the best of the speed, I’m Already Sexy, as well as the other possible closers. The ticket is 5 w 2,3,4,6, and variations thereof.

Spot Play

MIZ IDA (#5, 7-2): The overabundance of speed in this G3 turf stakes bodes extremely well for a mare who always has shown a fondness for the CD lawn. Has the added benefit of the needed tightener on Derby Day while also getting C-Lan aboard. Be coming on strong. – Marty McGee

Vulnerable Favorite

I'M ALREADY SEXY (#3, 3-1) faced better in her latest but she did blow a clear lead despite a mild opening fraction and she figures to face some pressure on the lead today. -Kenny Peck

Race 10

Spot Play

SAINT DERMOT (#4, 12-1) debuts in turf route for barn that has found steady success with 1st-timers in such races over the years. Strong work pattern. Would want something close to morning line price. – Marcus Hersh
