LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Jockey Shaun Bridgmohan enjoyed a sensational afternoon at Churchill Downs by riding half of the winners on a 10-race Sunday card, including four in a row. Bridgmohan took the lead atop the standings at the spring meet with his five-win day. His victories started with Cash Refund ($7) in the third race, a $59,800 allowance that served as the feature race of the day. Bridgmohan then reeled off triumphs aboard Dubai’s Connection ($3.20) in the fourth, New Bay ($25.20) in the fifth, Costly ($5.60) in the sixth, and Nowhere to Hide ($6.60) in the eighth. The five-win day is one short of a personal best for Bridgmohan, who twice has won six races on a single program: on a February card in 1998, the year he was voted the Eclipse Award as top apprentice, and on a December 2007 card at Fair Grounds. Bridgmohan has 11 wins at the Churchill spring meet, one more than perennial leading rider Julien Leparoux. Jon Court is third with 9 wins. Bridgmohan, a 31-year-old native of Jamaica, started his career riding primarily in Florida and New York before switching several years ago to a circuit that comprises Keeneland, Churchill, Saratoga, and Fair Grounds.
