Churchill Downs: Believe You Can set to return in Falls City

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Believe You Can, the 2012 Kentucky Oaks winner who has not raced since finishing last in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park in late May, is being pointed to a return in the Grade 2, $150,000 Falls City Handicap on Nov. 28, the traditional Thanksgiving Day feature here.
Believe You Can breezed Saturday and is scheduled to work at least once more prior to the 1 1/8-mile Falls City, trainer Larry Jones said.
Jones said he is still puzzled by how Believe You Can and her now-retired stablemate Joyful Victory went badly off form in the Phipps. Joyful Victory ran next-to-last.
“Both horses got a layoff after that and Joyful Victory came back really good, so we’re expecting this one to do that, too,” he said.
Among the other Falls City probables are Don’t Tell Sophie and Wine Princess, the one-two finishers in the Nov. 2 Chilukki at Churchill.
