Churchill: Colby Hernandez injured in spill

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Colby Hernandez, who ranks third among jockeys in North America this year with 240 wins, was scheduled to see an orthopedic specialist Monday to determine how much time he will need to heal from a collarbone injury suffered Saturday.
Hernandez was aboard Raofthesun when the colt fell shortly past the wire after the 11th race.
Chella, a 4-year-old Ontario-bred filly, remained unbeaten in six tries for owner and trainer Elliot Sullivan when she pulled away to a 1 1/2-length victory in the seventh race Sunday at Churchill. Sullivan claimed Chella for $10,000 on April 1 and has run her mostly in starter-allowance races at ThistleDown since then. Overall, Chella has 12 wins from 24 starts for earnings of $160,939.
Among the weekend workers at Churchill were the D. Wayne Lukas-trained pair of Take Charge Brandi and Mr. Z. Both breezed a half-mile Sunday in 49 and 49.80 seconds, respectively. Take Charge Brandi, the 2-year-old filly champion of 2014, had been off more than six months when she finished last of 10 in the Aug. 8 Test Stakes in her most recent start.
The fifth and last program of the Kentucky Downs meet on Saturday will be highlighted by four stakes, all for females: the $300,000 Ladies Marathon, the $300,000 Ladies Turf, the $200,000 Dueling Grounds Oaks, and the $150,000 One Dreamer. Entries were to be drawn Tuesday.
