After suffering the first defeat of her career two weeks ago, heavily favored Chub Wagon bounced back to her best form with a facile victory in Monday's $100,000 Roamin Rachel Stakes for fillies and mares traveling 6 1/2 furlongs at Parx. Ridden by Jomar Torres, Chub Wagon settled in second position as 52-1 pacesetter B B's Rocket posted a glacial opening fraction of 24.32 seconds over the fast track. Chub Wagon burst to the lead at the five-sixteenths pole and completed a half-mile split in 47.82 while challenged by Pacific Gale. They were followed home by Glory Dia and B B's Rocket. Bronx Beauty and Honor Way scratched. Chub Wagon paid $2.60 to win. A homebred daughter of Hey Chub owned by Daniel Lopez and George Chestnut, Chub Wagon won the first eight races of her career. Her streak was snapped over a sealed, sloppy track at Parx when she finished second to Saratoga invader Don't Call Me Mary in the Dr. Teresa Garofalo Memorial for Pennsylvania-breds on Aug. 23. "Big difference on a fast track," trainer Guadalupe Preciado said via telephone after the Roamin Rachel. "The other day, the jock said she didn't grab the track the right way. He asked every jump." Preciado mentioned Belmont's Grade 2, $250,000 Gallant Bloom Handicap on Sept. 26 as a potential next start for Chub Wagon. Pacific Gale's trainer, John Kimmel, told Daily Racing Form last week that his mare would use the Roamin Rachel as a stepping-stone to the $150,000 Floral Park Stakes on turf at Belmont on Oct. 17. Sweet Willemina dominates President's Cup Sweet Willemina won her fifth consecutive race when she dominated five other fillies and mares in the $100,000 Salvatore M. DeBunda PTHA President's Cup at 1 1/8 miles. The President's Cup was originally carded for turf but was contested on the main track after turf racing was canceled Monday morning. A 4-year-old daughter of Raison d'Etat bred by Calumet Farm, Sweet Willemina, entered for the main track only by trainer Scott Lake, rated in second as Blue Shine set splits of 24.25 and 48.92 seconds. Jockey Silvestre Gonzalez pushed the button entering the second turn and Sweet Willemina responded with a strong burst of speed. Sweet Willemina assumed complete control at the three-eighths pole and drew off to win by seven lengths in 1:54.47. B B's Busted was second, 5 3/4 lengths ahead of Tic Tic Tic Boom, who was third. Quiet Company, Blue Shine and Misquillo completed the order of finish. Sweet Willemina paid $3.20 to win as the betting favorite. Sweet Willemina began her career with a mediocre record of 1 win from 15 starts, but she found her groove since being claimed by Lake for $32,000 at Churchill Downs on June 17. Sweet Willemina notched three consecutive starter allowance events at Parx before winning an off-turf allowance at Delaware Park on Aug. 18. The President's Cup was her first stakes victory.
