Chu Chu’s Legacy will be looking for the third stakes win of his young career Monday, when he makes his two-turn debut in the $75,000 Louisiana Legacy at Delta Downs. The stakes, which is for 3-year-olds bred in Louisiana, will be run over 7 1/2 furlongs. It goes as the second race. Delta had scheduled a stakes double for Monday, but the $75,000 Gold Cup did not fill, according to Chris Warren, director of racing for Boyd Gaming, the parent company of Delta and sister track Evangeline Downs. Chu Chu’s Legacy is part of a field of eight. He put together back-to-back stakes wins last summer, when he captured a division of the D.S. “Shine” Young Futurity in August at Evangeline and the Louisiana Cup Juvenile in September at Louisiana Downs. Chu Chu’s Legacy set the pace in those races, and his owner and trainer, Allen Landry, looks for a similar trip Monday. “I think he’ll be on the lead most of the race,” he said. “I’m just hoping we can finish good. If we can get an easy pace the first half-mile, I think we’ll be all right. Two turns may be a little far for him, but we’re going to try.” :: Want to get your Past Performances for free? His dam, Bond’s Babe, is a daughter of Johannesburg who registered her four wins in sprints. Chu Chu’s Legacy exits a fifth-place finish in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile in December at Fair Grounds. The start was his first in about three months, and he set a quick pace on a muddy track. “They went really rapid,” said Landry, who looks for a move forward in the horse’s second start back from a freshening Monday. Timothy Thornton has the mount from post 6. The start will be the first at Delta for Chu Chu’s Legacy. “He’s been training here,” Landry said. The second most accomplished horse in the Louisiana Legacy field is Standing Perfect. He enters off a runner-up finish in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile at Fair Grounds. Standing Perfect closed from several lengths off the pace, and the Beyer Speed Figure of 66 that he earned is the best last-race number in the field Monday. Standing Perfect is proven at two turns, having won a maiden special weight over 7 1/2 furlongs on turf in his career debut last September at Louisiana Downs. Ashley Broussard has the mount on Standing Perfect from post 5 for owner Respect the Valleys and trainer Lee Thomas. Drewhustle is an Outwork colt who won at a mile at Delta Downs in his last start, capturing a maiden special weight Dec. 17. Devin Magnon has the mount from post 3 for Norman Stables and trainer Lonnie Briley.
