Chrome Mine wins Sadie Hawkins Stakes

Chrome Mine improved her record in 2015 to 3 for 3 with a victory in the $51,050 Sadie Hawkins Stakes, a seven-furlong sprint for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares, at Charles Town on Saturday night. Chrome Mine paid $7.40 as the second choice in the field of eight, finishing a neck ahead of Red Hot Diva.
With Jose Montano aboard, Chrome Mine stalked the pace in the No. 3 path as Dimples and Cuppa Mocha Mojo led the field through a quarter-mile in 23.65 seconds and a half-mile in 48 seconds flat. Entering the far turn, Chrome Mine and Red Hot Diva steadily advanced in tandem three and four wide, with Chrome Mine taking a short lead around the bend and holding off Red Hot Diva in the lane. Chrome Mine finished in 1:25.51.
Cuppa Mocha Mojo finished third, 1 1/2 lengths behind Red Hot Diva, and was followed by Queen’o’daball, Blisstikus, the favored Sawyer, and Practical Ideas.
Chrome Mine, a 4-year-old Mineshaft filly bred and owned by Michael J. Miller, has won eight of 10 starts for $177,390 and has never finished off the board. Trained by David Walters, she began her season with a pair of wins in allowance sprints by daylight over open company in June and July. Last August, she beat statebreds in the $51,050 Sylvia Bishop Memorial.
