Chris and Dave caps strong weekend for Caldwell and Co. with Rasmussen victory
It was a good weekend at Prairie Meadows for owner Danny Caldwell, trainer Federico Villafranco, and jockey Ramon Vazquez. Two days after they upset the Ed Skinner Memorial Stakes with D’rapper, Chris and Dave handed odds-on favorite Remembering Rita a neck defeat Monday in the $65,000 Jim Rasmussen Memorial Stakes.
Chris and Dave rallied widest in the two-turn Rasmussen, hitting the front in the final half-furlong as four horses stacked up across the track. Remembering Rita, the 2018 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap winner, had no real punch Monday and was all out to nip pace-setters Gato Guapo and Pinson for second.
Chris and Dave ran 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:44.45 and paid $8 to win.
A 6-year-old gelding, Chris and Dave is by Bluegrass Cat out of Stolen Humor, by Distorted Humor. Villafranco and Caldwell claimed him for $40,000 in February at Oaklawn and won two allowance races before Chris and Dave captured the Rasmussen, a local prep for the Cornhusker.
