The Chosen Vron earns a vacation

The Chosen Vron has won six consecutive stakes for California-breds since September, and an attempt to continue the streak will not occur until late May at the earliest.
Trainer and co-owner Eric Kruljac said earlier this week that The Chosen Vron will have a brief rest in April and is likely to resume racing in a $100,000 stakes for statebreds at Santa Anita on May 28 – the Thor’s Echo at six furlongs on dirt, or the Crystal Water Stakes at a mile on turf.

The Chosen Vron won the Sensational Star Stakes at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course by a nose at Santa Anita last Saturday, but Kruljac saw clues that the 5-year-old gelding deserves a break.
“I think we’ll coast for a bit,” Kruljac said. “It wasn’t his ‘A’ race. I think it’s a signal. We’ve asked a lot of him. He’s had four or five tough races.”
A winner of 11 of 15 starts, The Chosen Vron has earned $732,678 for Kruljac, John Sondereker, Robert Fetkin and Richard Thornburgh.
The winning streak consists of two sprints on dirt, two one-mile races on turf, and two sprints on Santa Anita’s hillside turf course. Four of the races have been at Santa Anita, with one each at Del Mar and Los Alamitos.
In the Sensational Star, The Chosen Vron closed from fourth in a field of five through the stretch to reach the front in the final strides. On the hillside, The Chosen Vron was forced out by a rival, but recovered to rally through the stretch.
“He got pushed around a little bit,” Kruljac said. “His energy level didn’t look as good as it had.”
