Chocolate Martini may come back for Oaklawn stakes

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- Trainer Tom Amoss said all options are on the table for Chocolate Martini – including stakes opportunities at Oaklawn Park – after she won her 4-year-old debut at the track Sunday.
Chocolate Martini, the winner of last year’s Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks who was making her first start since October, rallied from next to last for a three-quarter-length win in an allowance route for fillies and mares. For the effort in the 1 1/16-mile race she earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 84.
“That was fun,” Amoss said of the return victory from Chocolate Martini. “I thought it was a very good comeback race. Like always, there’s concern coming off layoffs they may lose a step. I’m really proud of her. And I like the fact she showed she handled that track well.”
Chocolate Martini is now back home at her base of Fair Grounds.
“She looks good,” Amoss said Tuesday. “We’ll give her the proper time between races and see what’s available.”
Amoss said considerations will include the Oaklawn stakes program for older mares. The next race for Chocolate Martini’s division at Oaklawn is the Grade 2, $350,000 Azeri on March 16. The other local stakes offering is the Grade 1, $700,000 Apple Blossom on April 14.
Chocolate Martini is a daughter of Broken Vow owned by Double Doors Racing and Nine Thirty Racing.
