Chimney Rock turns tables on Four Wheel Drive

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Chimney Rock reversed his defeat to Four Wheel Drive in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint last fall when he got up in the final strides Sunday to win a $58,309 turf-sprint allowance for 3-year-olds. Chimney Rock, a Louisiana-bred, earned a career-high 87 Beyer Speed Figure.

Chimney Rock ($13.80), trained by Mike Maker, was second to Four Wheel Drive in the Breeders’ Cup. This one turned out much different, with Chimney Rock nailing the speedy Jack and Noah on the wire while Four Wheel Drive labored home seventh following a sluggish break from his inside post.
Winn leads first stakes
The first five stakes of the spring meet are set for Saturday, with the Grade 3 Matt Winn being the main focus as a points qualifier (50-20-10-5) for the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby.
Maxfield, Major Fed, and Max Player are among the confirmed starters for the 1 1/16-mile Matt Winn. The other four stakes, all with $100,000 purses, are the Blame, War Front, Shawnee, and Tepin. Entries were to be drawn Wednesday.
