OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Live racing at Aqueduct Saturday – as well as morning training at Belmont Park – has been canceled due to a forecast that calls for wind-chills in the single-digits, the New York Racing Association announced Friday afternoon. After light snow fell throughout most of Friday’s card, during which all scheduled eight races were run, temperatures were forecasted to plummet overnight and the high for Saturday was expected to reach only 24 degrees, but with wind-chills in the 5-to-10-degree range, according to the National Weather Service. Aqueduct was among a handful of tracks nationwide to cancel racing on Saturday, including Charles Town, Laurel, Oaklawn, and Turfway. Oaklawn also canceled its Sunday card. Saturday’s Aqueduct card was to feature the $150,000 Interborough Stakes for fillies and mares. That race will now be run on Jan. 27, with the race to be redrawn on Wednesday. Aqueduct will be open for simulcasting Saturday and live racing is expected to return on Sunday with a nine-race card including the $100,000 Rego Park Stakes for New York-bred 3-year-olds. Following Sunday’s card, Aqueduct begins a three-day race-week schedule with live racing Fridays through Sundays through March 3. There will be one four-day race week during that span as there will be a Presidents’ Day card on Feb. 19. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
