Chief Cicatriz wins fourth straight stakes in Ft. Bliss

Chief Cicatriz remained unbeatable in the Southwest sprint ranks on Saturday, when he won his fourth consecutive stakes race in the $75,000 Ft. Bliss at Sunland Park. Runaway Ghost, who was making his first start since June, finished second in the race he won in 2019.
Chief Cicatriz ($3.20) held for a neck win. He took the field through an opening quarter in 22.12 seconds and a half-mile in 44.51 before covering six furlongs on a fast track in 1:08.94.
Chief Cicatriz, by Munnings, began his stakes streak at home at Turf Paradise, taking the Luke Kruytbosch on Nov. 9. He proceeded to capture the $100,000 Zia Park Sprint on Nov. 27 then the KLAQ Handicap on Dec. 28 at Sunland.
Francisco Arrieta was in the irons Saturday for breeder and owner Roy Gene Evans and trainer Shawn Davis.
