Chief Cicatriz remains unbeaten in KLAQ Handicap

Chief Cicatriz ran his record to 4 for 4 on Saturday, when he dueled through quick fractions and kept going for a three-length win over Indexical in the $65,000 KLAQ Handicap at Sunland Park. It was another half-length back in third to Redneck Humor.
The KLAQ, for 3-year-olds and up at five furlongs, shared a card with the $85,000 Jess Burner Memorial, a restricted Grade 1 for Quarter Horses won wire-to-wire by Seeyalateralligator ($17). The races were the first stakes of the Sunland meet that opened Friday.
Chief Cicatriz ($5.40) was making his stakes debut Saturday, and dueled with Redneck Humor through an opening quarter-mile in 22.16 seconds. Chief Cicatriz proceeded on through a half-mile in 44.89 before covering the distance on a fast track in 56.60 seconds.
Alfredo Juarez Jr. was aboard for trainer Shawn Davis.
Chief Cicatriz earned $39,000 for the win to improve his bankroll to $83,100. He is a son of Munnings and he was bred in Kentucky by his owner, Roy Gene Evans.
