Chief of Affairs leads throughout at Indiana Downs

John McDulin|May 13, 2010

Chief of Affairs led at every call in the $75,000 James Whitcomb Riley to win by a length and a half Wednesday evening at Indiana Downs.

Trained by Bret Calhoun, Chief of Affairs was kept in the six and seven path over the sloppy Indiana Downs dirt course by jockey Miguel Mena throughout the six-furlong event. That tactic worked well for Mena, as Chief of Affairs was only .05 seconds off the track record of 1.08.80. Riley Tucker made a run at the winner in midstretch to loomed boldy under Shaun Bridgmohan, but flattened out late and had to settle for the place. Golden Country was third, four lengths behind Riley Tucker.

Chief of Affairs returned $3.80 to win.
