DEL MAR, Calif. – Glen Hill Farm and trainer Tom Proctor won Grade 2 stakes on consecutive days over the holiday weekend at Del Mar with Chicago Style in the Hollywood Turf Cup on Friday and Caribou Club in the Seabiscuit Handicap on Saturday. With Chicago Style and Caribou Club among Glen Hill’s runners in Southern California this winter, the stable has much to look forward to. Glen Hill Farm will have 20 horses in Southern California this winter, according to farm owner Craig Bernick.  Chicago Style is likely to start in the Grade 2 San Marcos Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on turf Feb. 2, while Caribou Club could run in sprints on the hillside turf course. Caribou Club’s major objective in early 2019 is the Grade 1 Frank Kilroe Mile on turf March 9. Chicago Style was very nearly out of the Glen Hill-Proctor team earlier this year. Bernick said on Sunday that Chicago Style was set to be sold until the deal fell through. “He failed the vet,” Bernick said. “We didn’t know anything was wrong with him. Sometimes when you stop on them before they regress, you can catch it. We gave him a few months off.” Chicago Style finished fifth in the restricted Lure Stakes at Santa Anita Nov. 2 in his first start in 10 months, then closed from last to prevail by a neck as the 9-5 favorite in the Hollywood Turf Cup. The Hollywood Turf Cup, run at 1 1/2 miles, was Chicago Style’s first stakes win. Chicago Style, 5, has won 6 of 11 starts and earned $296,328. “He’s a horse that didn’t run until he was 4,” Bernick said. “We have to pick our spots with him.” Caribou Club won his third stakes of the year and the fourth of his career in the $202,415 Seabiscuit, closing from sixth in a field of 12 in the race at 1 1/16 miles on turf. Bernick said that distance may be the extent of Caribou Club’s best range, and that the 4-year-old gelding may start in turf sprints and one-mile races this winter. “I don’t know if wants to run a mile and an eighth,” Bernick said. “I think he’s a miler.” In September, Caribou Club was third by a half-length to Stormy Liberal in the Grade 3 Eddie D Stakes on the hillside turf course at Santa Anita. “That was a good race,” Bernick said. “He had to give weight, and he made up six lengths in the last part and probably goes by him with another jump or two.” Stormy Liberal won the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs earlier this month. Those two could meet in the $75,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes on the hillside turf course Jan. 1. Proctor’s team for Glen Hill Farm will include the filly Summering early next year. Summering won the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf in September and was 13th in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf on Nov. 2. Summering is being given a late-season rest and will resume training on Jan. 1, with the Grade 3 Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs on March 9 or the China Doll Stakes at a mile on turf at Santa Anita on the same day under consideration. :: Want to get the latest news with your past performances?
