ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The talented Sam-Son Farm homebred Chic Thrill makes her much-anticipated second start on Friday at Woodbine in the featured seven-furlong allowance for fillies and mares on the grass.

Chic Thrill was bet down to 3-1 in her lone outing in a maiden special weight sprint on the turf July 25. After racing in third early, she was carried wide on the turn before kicking in to win going away while earning a 79 Beyer Speed Figure.

Chic Thrill has worked regularly since early August, including five furlongs around the cones on the turf training course in 59.60 seconds last Friday.

Leading rider Eurico Da Silva will get a leg up on Chic Thrill from trainer Malcolm Pierce. They have combined to go 15 for 49 at the meet, and Da Silva should have her forwardly placed after breaking from post 1.

Friday’s challenging nine-race card has an average field size of 10.9 horses, excluding also-eligibles.

KEY CONTENDERS

Chic Thrill (Beyer: 79)

◗ The nicely bred daughter of Smart Strike is the second foal from Catch the Thrill, an A.P. Indy mare who captured the Princess Elizabeth Stakes and earned a Sovereign Award as Canadian champion 2-year-old filly.

Quidi Vidi (Last 3 Beyers: 74-76-57)

◗ She was stakes-placed last year during her productive juvenile campaign but then missed the first half of this meet before notching her turf debut off the bench Aug. 8. She doubled up three weeks ago in another Ontario-sired allowance sprint on the lawn, scoring by daylight under a hand ride from Simon Husbands.

◗ She is owned and trained by Lorna Perkins, who’s had a solid meet, with five wins from 31 starts.

Belle Soul (Last 3 Beyers: 80-71-70)

◗ The daughter of underrated sire Perfect Soul has evolved into a useful turf expert. She’s coming off a fast victory in a seven-furlong maiden special weight race in her return from a summer break Aug. 19.

◗ Owner Charles Fipke and trainer Roger Attfield combined for several stakes successes during the summer, most notably the $500,400 Breeders’ Stakes with Danish Dynaformer.

Alilaction (Last 3 Beyers: 69-57-48)

◗ She rallied for second behind Quidi Vidi in her first turf attempt of the year Sept. 5, when she turned back from 1 1/8 miles. She’s since changed trainers, going from Ralph Biamonte to Julia Carey, who won last Sunday’s La Lorgnette Stakes with Midnight Miley.

Hold the Gold (Last 3 Beyers: 57-73-82)

◗ The Street Cry filly hasn’t shown much in turf routes since graduating first time out in a romp here on the Polytrack in May 2014.
