Cherry Lodge among five entered for Matron

ELMONT, N.Y. – Cherry Lodge, third in the Grade 1 Spinaway on Sept. 3, heads a field of five for Sunday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Matron for 2-year-old fillies at six furlongs.
Cherry Lodge will face Amapola, whom she beat by a length in a maiden race at Saratoga on Aug. 7. Amapola, despite three solid races, remains eligible for a maiden race.
Cherry Lodge, who will be ridden by John Velazquez, drew post 4. Cherry Lodge’s trainer, Todd Pletcher, also entered Spirituality, a filly formerly trained by Shannon Ritter. Spirituality, who drew post 5, won a maiden race by eight lengths at Delaware Park in August. Most recently, she finished ninth of 11 in the Arlington-Washington Lassie.
Arella Rockstar and Fly complete the field.
The Matron will go as race 4 on the nine-race card.
