Chenery 'fine' after heart attack

Glenye Cain Oakford|Sep 08, 2004

Prominent Thoroughbred owner Penny Chenery, who bred and campaigned the 1973 Triple Crown winner, Secretariat, was in a Lexington, Ky., hospital on Wednesday recuperating from a heart attack.

Chenery, 82, had the attack Monday and went to Lexington's Central Baptist Hospital, where she underwent an angioplasty. She was expected to return to her Lexington home this week, possibly as early as Thursday.

"I'm just fine," she said. "I'm going to recover and regain my energy."

"She has had a heart attack and will be curtailing her activities - not eliminating, just cutting back," Chenery's daughter, Sarah Manning, said. "She'll be resting at home in a couple of days."
