Chelsey's Image wins Sadie Diamond

VANCOUVER, British Columbia ? In another close finish in a major race at Hastings, Chelsey's Image held off Suva by a head to win the $106,870 Sadie Diamond Futurity on Saturday.

Breaking sharply under jockey Anderson Ward, Chelsey's Image stalked the 3-2 favorite Dance Odyssey before taking the lead midway on the stretch turn. Chelsey's Image took a one-length lead into the stretch and then held off a determined late bid by Suva.

"She broke very sharply and she was happy to sit just off of the other horse," said Ward. "I was just trying to save as much horse as possible, and she really dug in when she was challenged."

Chelsey's Image is trained by Gary Demorest, who said that if she came out of the race in good shape she would make her next start in the $75,000-added Fantasy Stakes Oct. 28.

Chelsey's Image paid $8.50 and earned $64,122 for her owners Nick and Pauline Felicella.

Final time for the 6 1/2 furlongs was 1:17.84.
