Cheberinoff, racing official, dead

TORONTO, Ontario - Stan Cheberinoff, a longtime racing official in Ontario, died at age 65 on Wednesday evening after having a heart attack at his Hamilton home.

Cheberinoff had retired from the Woodbine Entertainment Group last December after serving in the new capacity of placing judge for the latter part of 2001. He had been the starter at Woodbine for 18 years and also had worked as the starter at Fort Erie after having joined the gate crew there in 1959.

Cheberinoff is survived by sons David, Mark, and Stephen. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m Saturday at M. A. Clark and Sons Funeral Home in Hamilton. Visitation hours are Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
