Debra A. Roma Soul of an Angel captured the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar to lock up her championship.

Eclipse Award champion Soul of an Angel was purchased for $2.6 million by Chatsworth Stud of Australia in a one-horse flash sale conducted on Fasig-Tipton's digital platform that closed Tuesday night.

Soul of an Angel, a 6-year-old Atreides mare, was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect by owners C2 Racing Stable, Agave Racing Stable, and Ken Reimer, with Taylor Made handling consigning duties. Chatsworth, located in New South Wales, Australia, ultimately prevailed in the bidding, which opened last Wednesday. Immediate plans for the mare were not disclosed, but she will presumably join the operation's broodmare band prior to the Southern Hemisphere breeding season that begins in September.

“Soul of an Angel took us to the pinnacle of horse racing in the Breeders’ Cup, so it was a bit bittersweet letting her go,” co-owner Mark Cornett of C2 Racing said in a release. “We are thrilled with the result and wish the new owners the best of luck with her.”

Already a minor stakes winner and Grade 3-placed, Soul of an Angel began to compete exclusively in graded stakes company after being privately purchased and transferred to Saffie Joseph Jr. in early 2024. She won three graded stakes last year, taking the Grade 2 Ruffian going a one-turn mile at Aqueduct, the Grade 3 Princess Rooney at seven furlongs at Gulfstream, and the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar to lock up her championship.

She was on the board in three other graded stakes. The most notable of these was in the Grade 3 Molly Pitcher, when she came within a head of defeating two-time Eclipse champion Idiomatic going 1 1/16 miles at Monmouth.

Soul of an Angel made one start following the Breeders' Cup, finishing third by a neck in the Rampart on Dec. 26 at Gulfstream. That moved her career mark to 42-6-7-6 with earnings of $1,205,175.

Soul of an Angel's price set a record for Fasig-Tipton's standalone digital platform, which was launched in March 2022 after online bidding was integrated into the company's traditional live sales during the 2020 pandemic. The digital platform hosts regular sales, as well as flash offerings for those looking to strike at opportune times.

"It was an honor to have a horse with the accolades of Soul of an Angel on the platform,” Leif Aaron, Fasig-Tipton's director of digital sales, said in the release.
