Chase the Line long gone

When Chase the Line cleared Sonvida Red and Disco T into the first turn of the $75,000 Docent Handicap at Philadelphia Park, the race was as good as over. Chase the Line and jockey Maria Charles had few anxious moments in the 1 1/16-mile race for Pennsylvania-bred older horses, opening up in midstretch and winning by 6 1/4 lengths over Sonvida Red. Disco T finished third.

The top three finishers were the clear speed of the eight-horse field, and the only question was which would make the lead. Chase the Line ($9.40), breaking from post 3, was outside his two main rivals, but cleared them with little trouble. Chase the Line set fractions of 22.81, 46.55, and 1:10.81, and finished in 1:42.96 over a good track.

Owned by Plumstead Stables and trained by Robert Seeger, Chase the Line was making his first start since November. Chase the Line, a 5-year-old Line in the Sand gelding, has won 7 of 22 starts and earned more than $240,000.
